about
Fiona first met songwriter and guitarist Calum MacColl through renowned producer Calum Malcolm at his studio in North Berwick. They have much in common, not least being the offspring of legendary performers, song writers and great characters and story tellers. Calum is the son of the late, great Ewan MacColl and his mother is the equally legendary Peggy Seeger.
'Down the Line' was a natural songwriting collaboration exploring the pride and anxiety most parents feel when kids make their own way, hoping we've helped equip them for their life's journey. This was borne out as Calum’s son, Harry Mead, is the drummer on the album.
lyrics
Down the line
(Written by Fiona Kennedy and Calum MacColl)
Down the line, feel the wind and hear the whistle blow
Take your time, ride the rails and you will learn to read them as you go
You will live and you will die, you will laugh until you cry, down the line
Can you see, I'm waving at the station after you
And I will be, dreamin' of the future all the things you're gonna do
Feelin 'lonely, feelin' proud as you slip into the crowd
I won't lose you.
Yesterday, we were holding hands singing playground songs
Now you fly, never looking back, till you're gone
Down the line
Years ago, I was riding on this train just like you
Ran so fast, doin' all the stupid things I knew I shouldn't do
I was looking for the answers, climbing mountain after mountain, same as you.
Yesterday, we were holding hands singing playground songs
Now you fly, never looking back, till you're gone
Almost gone
Down the line
Down the line....you'll be waiting at the station
